I absolutely loved Jake in the previous books in this series and was dying to get to his story. I went in blind, solely based on who the main characters were. That was my first mistake. I didn’t know it would be a surprise baby trope, which isn’t my favorite… especially for mid 40 year olds with major emotional baggage.

I was extremely underwhelmed by A Kiss for a Kiss. The book started off with a bang and fizzled out very fast. 75% of the story was based around Hanna’s pregnancy. Constantly reiterating how risky it was. How old she was. How horrible her first pregnancy experience was emotionally. The main characters had zero chemistry or steam outside of the bedroom. And even that stopped happening entirely after the pregnancy was discovered.
They cuddled and fell asleep and that’s all you got for months of the timeline.

This book just didn’t do it for me. Yes, it was emotional and endearing. Jake was the stand-up heartthrob I knew he’d be but a romance book written around these two ended up feeling more like a women’s fiction story. Hardly any steam, a lot of dwelling on past experiences and mistakes, endless opinions from the peanut gallery and a sweet anticlimactic ending. I did enjoy the fact that both main characters were able to rewrite their parenting story together, the second go around. That was wonderful because they were such genuinely good people. The story just lacked drive and drama. I kept waiting for something to happen but it never did.
