My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Bexley and Ryan's second chance love story was so darn sweet and dramatic! It tugged at my heart strings, frustrated me to no end and made me swoon. I absolutely adored Bex's kids (usually I'm not a fan of baby talk or kids dialogue in romance novels) because they had such robust personalities and really helped elevate the story. With a decade lost between these two, their separation brought a lot of miscommunication, assumptions, heartbreak and grief. I felt like the author did a great job reflecting back on their past relationship; what went right, what went terribly wrong and how they ended up where they each were 10 years later.
At times, it felt like things moved EXTREMELY fast with this couple, especially considering one of the characters had children. But, because the couple had history and a deep connection, I was okay with it. The heat was sizzling between the duo, even all these years later. The spark between them was undeniable from the very first re-encounter.
My heart broke for Bex and her current situation. It seemed like no matter what she did, she just kept getting knocked down but would brush herself off and get right back up. I truly appreciated her perseverance and protective mama bear attitude. Ryan, while sometimes brooding and impersonal, was actually really sweet and compassionate! I loved the way he was drawn to Bex's kids and took care of them and was always looking out for their well being. I also loved how his parents took Bex and her kids under their wing and treated them like family regardless of the status of the couple's love life. My heart ached for that family connection for Bexley.
I hated the things that came between this couple throughout the story. So. Much. Drama! I was worried they'd never get it figured out and make it work. Whether it was their own stubbornness, or the interference of others. But, I kept the faith and adored how the book ended. The grand gestures at the end made me swoon. I felt like Bex was a little too quick to forgive and forget but that's just me.
