I don’t want you.
You mean nothing to me.
I never loved you.
I turned my words into swords.
And I cut her down.
Shoved the blade in and watched her fall.
I said I’d never hurt her, and I did.
Years later, I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted, when all I wanted was to indulge my obsession.
Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of.
I used to be the one who saved her.
Over and over again.
But I don’t want to save her anymore.
I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth.

Little LiesLittle Lies by H. Hunting
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

If I could rate the first half separate from the second half, I would. The first half of the book felt extremely slow paced and minimally progressive. Aside from the very beginning when Lavender experienced some trauma, the following chapters were a lot of reflecting back on her anxiety, experiencing more anxiety, being a typical college student and dealing with her over protective family and friends. The constant hinting at some major fall out between Lav and Kodiak two years prior left me feeling like once whatever occurred was revealed, it'd be anti-climactic.

The second half of the book, after Kodiak and Lavender were forced to share the same space and address their feelings helped picking up the story a bit. However, the situations that transpired between them, specifically in the bedroom, felt extremely far fetched for a character like the heroine. I didn't believe she'd behave that way and honestly seemed like the author threw some sexual adventure into the story just for a bit of shock factor.

I wanted to like Kodiak so badly, but he was such a grump and so rude and dismissive to Lavender for the majority of the story. I didn't understand him or his choices at all. He obviously had some mental health issues just like the heroine, but they weren't addressed at the depth and detail that hers were. That made him just seem extremely standoffish and rude.

I liked how the author executed the HEA for these two characters and did enjoy the last few chapters of the book.

Overall, Little Lies just didn't live up to the hype I'd created in my mind. It wasn't as angsty as I'd anticipated and neither of the main characters blew me away. I know I'll be one of the only readers who didn't fall head over heels for this book. The writing was good, I just didn't enjoy the story as a whole.
